It’s Been Forever.

So I’ll probably end up archiving this all and doing something else with the site. It’s been a looong time since I updated this. Still fun though =D

New Project: JJGame

JJGame screenshot.

Woo! Progress has started on a new game made by my brother and I. He’s heading up the artwork (this isn’t his, this is my cruddy programmer art + some good old EB0 sprites) and I’m doing the programming. The story and music will probably be both of us. Wish us luck!

It’s June!

Top 10 Games Of All Time

Games — Josh on January 31, 2007 at 6:13 pm

I’ve been playing games for a long time. Throughout all these years of gaming, there have been several games that strike me as nothing short of amazing. While many of these games share common traits, there is one thing they all share that, in a game, is most impressive to me: Polish. They all share a remarkable amount of that certain something that really makes a game stick out in my mind.

#10 - Half Life 2

Half Life 2

Why? Valve really outdid themselves with the second installment of Half Life. Half Life 2 brought into first person shooters one of the most amazing things ever to grace gaming: A glorious amount of physics. Ragdolls, gravity guns, and traps that actually make sense, Half Life 2 and all of it’s lovely mods (Garry’s Mod, especially) will never cease to grab my attention with the tremendous amount of polish on their physics systems.

#9 - World of Warcraft

World of Warcraft

Why? Never have I seen an MMORPG with such a dedication to the word “massive”. From the player base, to the world, to the vast amount of quests, items, and dungeons: World of Warcraft is huge. In my time with the game (I’ve stopped since I’ve started college), I never once got bored. Not once did I have to actually go out and grind just so I could get to the next level. Many MMOs can’t even come close to saying that.

#8 - The Final Fantasy Series

Final Fantasy (7)

Why? The Final Fantasy series is one of those staples of gaming that I hope never dies. Though the most recent games haven’t been quite the same, the oldies will always have a place in my personal hall of fame. Everyone has their own list of their favorite Final Fantasys, including me, and in my opinion 7, 8, and 9 were really the peak of Square’s games.

#7 - Oblivion

Oblivion

Why? While WoW is quite massive, and is probably the most massive MMO next to maybe Eve Online, it still pales in comparison to the most incredibly grand single player game of all time: The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion. Aside from spending days and days of time, there’s no way you can feasibly find everything in Oblivion.

#6 - Secret of Mana

Secret of Mana

Why? From here on in we’ll start getting into my real love: The Super Nintendo era. Secret of Mana and the less appreciated Secret of Evermore were both incredible games. By mixing Final Fantasy like RPG elements and storyline with Zelda like action, Square really created a masterpiece.

#5 - Ragnarok Online

Ragnarok Online

Why? Most people wont get this one because they didn’t have the experience my friends and I did with this game. There used to be this private server called apRO that was run by a couple people from a site I frequent (Starmen.Net). It was a great community that more than anything just enjoyed hanging out with each other and holding events.

#4 - The Super Nintendo

SUPER NINTENDO!

What?? I decided it was necessary to include the greatest system of all time. Enough said.

#3 - Chrono Trigger

Chrono Trigger

Why? Chrono Trigger has probably the most amazing musical score I’ve ever seen in a video game. Though that isn’t the only thing it has going for it. The story is top notch, the characters are memorable, and the game itself will always have a special place in my heart. A truly epic game, in my opinion.

#2 - Doukutsu Monogitari (aka Cave Story)

Doukutsu Monogatari

Why? What is there not to say about Doukutsu? This is the penultimate example that charm and polish can really make a game amazing. One of the best things about it is that it’s free! That and the fact that it was developed by one of my heroes of gaming, Pixel. This man worked for years making this game by himself, and it is really one of the best games I’ve ever had the pleasure of playing.

#1 - EarthBound

EarthBound

Why? There isn’t enough I can say about this game. The game, to begin with, is simply awesome. Like Doukutsu, the charm and polish are really the astonishing things about this game. If you haven’t played it, I really suggest you do. The story, the characters, the music, the graphics, the sound… Everything perfectly fits together. I have yet to find a fan base as dedicated as EarthBounds biggest fan site, Starmen.Net.

Final - Janx

Software, Games, School — Josh on January 30, 2007 at 12:42 am

Janx

So for my Java class I made a Scorched Earth/Pocket Tanks clone. It’s not really polished or anything, but I kinda like it =D

Ship

I decided I’d make a wallpaper for my computer to fit the mood I’m in. The picture is an old photo I took at the Oregon Coast a few years back. I like how it turned out =D
